Sierra Blanca Pharmacy (SBRX) opened its doors in 2012 at 1206 Mechem Drive in Ruidoso. Following an extensive career as a pharmacist for Walgreens, Chris Woodul had a dream of opening up a hometown pharmacy where customers weren’t just a number, but a face with a name. Initially, Chris was the only pharmacist, but they have since grown to two full time pharmacists with the addition of Kristi Espinosa, and three relief pharmacists, Bill Long, Hal Simms and Courtney Kessler. Chris’ wife, Micah, with the help of one additional employee make up the office staff. Pharmacy technicians include Flor Reyes, Resa Mercado, Lisa Silva, Betsy Palomino, Kim Branaman, and Dana Holder. In addition, SBRX employs Chris and Micah’s two sons, Kyler and Grady Woodul, Bonnie Rogers, Robert Roller, Emily King, Nick Morales, and Josh Mader. Several of these employees will be taking the pharmacy tech test to become technicians as well. Each year, the Wooduls approach the schools with job openings for senior high school students that can eventually lead to a pharmacy technician position which allows those students the opportunity to work in a more professional job as well as to work their way through college at a higher than minimum wage position.
SBRX places an emphasis on customer service. They strive to be about the customer as much as possible even delivering prescriptions to those customers that cannot pick up their prescriptions themselves. With 24-hour advance notice, deliveries are free to the Ruidoso and Ruidoso Downs area and just $5 to the outlying communities of Carrizozo, Capitan and Lincoln.
They are a full-service pharmacy, including being a non-sterile compounding pharmacy. As a part of the Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA), they have the ability to create many different types of personalized medicine for patients’ specific needs. They are also a member of the Good Neighbor Pharmacy which helps keep prices as low as possible. SBRX carries a limited supply of gift items as well as greeting cards, over the counter medications, and durable medical equipment for sale or to rent that includes such items as crutches, scooters and walkers.
Micah Woodul is an expert in Medicare Part D and is available by appointment to help navigate that plan. In addition, they can perform most immunizations and Kristi Espinosa can prescribe birth control.
